From a single workshop in Darwin to a nationally recognised management training provider.
Strategic Management Tutors was founded in 2011 by two former corporate executives who had spent decades watching talented professionals get promoted into management roles with almost no preparation. They had seen first-hand the toll this took — on the individuals who felt overwhelmed, on the teams who lost trust in leadership and on the organisations that haemorrhaged good people because of avoidable management failures.
The founding idea was deceptively simple: create management training that mirrors the complexity of real work. No slide-heavy lectures. No abstract theory divorced from context. Instead, every program would be anchored in the specific challenges participants faced in their own organisations, using facilitated practice, peer feedback and structured reflection to build genuine capability rather than surface-level awareness.
That philosophy still drives everything we do today. Over the past fourteen years we have expanded from our base in the Northern Territory to serve clients across every Australian state and territory, from remote mining operations in Western Australia to financial services firms in Sydney and government departments in Canberra. Our facilitator network has grown, our methodology has been refined through thousands of hours of delivery and participant feedback, and our impact data has become one of our strongest differentiators in the market.
Despite that growth, we have deliberately stayed boutique. We believe the quality of management training depends on deep relationships — between facilitator and participant, between the training provider and the organisation's leadership. We limit the number of engagements we take on each quarter so that every client receives the attention their investment deserves.
